The fire service in the city of Rila informs that firefighting teams have been sent to the scene, but the terrain is difficult to access. It is assumed that the fire started from lightning, which ignited a tree or dry grass.

The fire that broke out near Pompeno-storage hydroelectric plant (PAVEC) "Kalin" in Rila mountain, probably caused by lightning. According to the fire service in Kyustendil, the fire covers a small area, but is difficult to extinguish due to its high location at about 2,400 meters above sea level, near the highest dam in the Balkans. Commissioner Svetoslav Georgiev, director of the Regional Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population", confirmed the difficulties in controlling the fire.
On the site of the Nature Park "Rila Monastery" it is reported that due to the fire, the road from the village of Pastra with the municipality of Rila to the "Chala" hut is closed.
"We urge you to be careful and vigilant, because high temperatures and carelessness when lighting fires in forests create a real danger of fires that threaten people's lives, destroy valuable vegetation and forests, and habitats of a number of animals", appeal from the directorate of the nature park.
