The problem is that we have no plan on how to restructure our energy system. The energy expert Iliyan Vassilev told the BNR.
"We missed ten years in which we could have claimed positions, as well as the opportunity to prepare our very energy for the time after the moment when everyone does what they decide. We have a collision in the lobby. But coal is clearly the weakest. Nuclear attracts tens of billions of overinvestment. There is a battle of policies".
The question is not about the direction, but about the pace and the ability to make the transition smooth, he further explained in the program "Horizon for you".
"Different countries have different adaptive capacity. The richer can make more mistakes and lose more. We do not have this additional resource".
Without coal plants, we cannot have sustainable energy, Vassilev believes.
The real market, which is defined in terms of demand, supply and competition, has long since emerged as a concept from the field of energy, the expert also pointed out.
"There are too many non-market factors at play, which prevents the market from giving the right signals to players on how to adapt to new needs and developments. Climate policies were one ideology that interfered with the market. An unbalanced transition occurred".
He also noted, "we failed to prepare for this transition".
"Bulgarian energy policy is increasingly being determined by a group of people who are outside the market. They are driven by interests such as the absorption of money or the implementation of climate policies".
