The demonstration actions against the bought vote seemed to divert, to some extent, the public attention, so that someone could go shopping in peace. I have been observing these processes in Bulgaria for many years. I have also been a direct participant in them. I have not been a defender of vote buyers at this point, because these cases are not that many.
This was commented in the FAKTI studio in front of Lili Marinkova, Adv. Emanuil Yordanov, who is a former interior minister, on the occasion of the noisy actions of the power department against vote trading before the already passed parliamentary elections. He also commented on the development of cases against the bought vote. Here is more from the analysis of Adv. Yordanov:
If we have the text of the final judgment, things will be quite different. We have seen how many officials, including ministers, run away from the specific answer for whom the persons who are convicted of committing the relevant crimes are buying votes for.
Boyko Rashkov and Ivan Demerdzhiev - we are talking about two lawyers who have a completely different view on the topic of the fight against the bought vote. And this is part of a very old argument about whether the Home Secretary should be a lawyer or should be an operative.
In my opinion, when the minister is a former operative, we have two chief secretaries of the Ministry of the Interior. And a minister is missing. There is a lack of civil control, a lack of different views on things. The specific idea of protecting the law in the first place is also missing.
For a long time in the Ministry of the Interior, people who are inside the system were appointed as ministers. Which was, somewhat, toying with the employees. Hardly "We give you your man, he is one of you". After all, no one remembers that 15 years ago, when GERB took power, they were a party coming from the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And yet, at the time when GERB ran the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we had the most serious protests by police officers against the position they have in the ministry.
I don't know if Kalin Stoyanov will be an MP. It struck me that he is included in two lists - one is Sofia region. I don't remember DPS having any serious successes there. Including the specific agitation methods they use.
Years ago I used to joke that when I fired a senior ministry official, by where he went to work, I could tell who he worked for while in the ministry.
Peevski did not waste his time at all while he was one of the chairmen of the DPS. Apparently, he managed to turn in his favor part of the management of the local assets. This brings him results in places. I personally am not extremely optimistic about his political future. Despite everything, the DPS electorate is very strongly divided. And what he has at his disposal, in my opinion, would not allow him to be any significant figure in Bulgarian politics in the future. In addition, Boyko Borisov has shown that he has the ability, sometimes even late, to get rid of those people who weigh on him as damaging the rating - both his own and the rating of his party.
