A man from Pomorie has been waiting for 8 months to receive an official document from the prosecutor's office in Varna to terminate pre-trial proceedings after a false positive field drug test. Yani Burgazliev's son crashed himself on the Varna-Burgas road in bad weather and tested positive for cannabis during a field drug test. The young man underwent a voluntary blood test, which turned out to be negative and was ready on September 10 last year. However, to date, the prosecutor's office in Varna has not yet issued a document for terminating pre-trial proceedings.
Burgazliev's son Georgi crashed himself on November 4, 2023 in a leased car. When the father went to the scene of the accident, his son was given a field drug test, which came back positive. The young man agreed to a voluntary blood test for drugs, which was done at the Military Medical Academy in Varna.
The results of the blood test were negative and were officially released in September 2024. Burgazliev, however, points out that he was not officially notified that the expertise was ready. “The investigator who is leading the pre-trial proceedings has been convincing me all along that the results are not ready. I don't understand why this is being done and why this information is being hidden from us. We are not even given an answer as to when the pre-trial proceedings will end”, he stressed.
The man points out that the car is in “bulk condition”. It is leased, but the insurers refuse to pay the damages until the pre-trial proceedings are over. Burgazliev also expressed concerns that at any moment his son is stopped – even for a personal check, there will be a “red signal against his name that pre-trial proceedings are being conducted against him”.
“My son is a student in Varna, from where he was returning home at the time of the incident. When I went to the Traffic Police-Varna to ask what the procedure was for my son to get his driver's license – the employee there checked and told me that pre-trial proceedings are still being conducted against him”, Burgazliev explained.
