The Chief of Police in Haskovo: I will resign. I do not feel guilty. I have done my job - 1

I do not feel guilty. I have done my job. I have solved the murder. I said it earlier and I will do it - I will resign. This was said by the Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Haskovo, Senior Commissioner Ivan Rasokov. He confirmed the information that the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov on Thursday evening requested his resignation from the post, BTA reports.

The reaction comes after a protest in front of the building of the Regional Police Department, organized on social networks on Thursday. It began around 5:00 p.m. People demanded the resignation of Senior Commissioner Rasokov. The reason for their dissatisfaction is the murder of an 18-year-old girl from the city, whose body was found in an uninhabited property on April 30, after she had been missing and wanted since April 26 this year. A 17-year-old youth has been detained in the case and charged as the perpetrator. According to the protesters, the police have not taken sufficient action to search for the girl.

A contact group of protesters spoke in the police station building with the head of the Haskovo Police Station, Commissioner Miroslav Hristov. When the protest representatives came out to the crowd again, the people did not give them the floor to tell what they had heard from the police, that the girl had been searched for the whole time and that the police had done their job. This was followed by aggression from mostly young people, some of them minors, who threw stones at the police station building and broke some of the windows. Youths removed part of the building's gutters and dumped them in front of the entrance to the police station.

The protesters in front of the Haskovo Regional Police Department (RPD) were dispersed by law enforcement officers shortly before 9:00 p.m. Uniformed men with helmets and shields were already lined up in the yard of the department, but remained in place for about two hours without reacting. The police only took to the streets when the protesters began throwing rocks into the yard of the department. Initially, a sound signal was issued with a voice warning to the protesters, who were mostly young people at that time.

The police dispersed the crowd and cordoned off the area at the back of the department. The people dispersed, but some of them remained near the Haskovo RPD. Two people were taken to the regional department, but there is no official information about the arrests yet.
