Bulgaria's top seed Victoria Tomova lost to world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 3:6, 0:6 in a second-round match at the mega tournament in Miami, Florida, FOCUS reported.
The Sofia native broke through at the start, but then the leader in the rankings made a series of 5 consecutive games to lead 5:1. Tomova took the next two, taking her opponent's serve for the second time, but at 5:3 Sabalenka had no problem closing the set in her favor after 33 minutes of play.
In the second set, the Belarusian representative did not give the Bulgarian a chance to even take a game. The second set lasted just 26 minutes.
This was the second duel between them. The previous one was won by Tomova 7:6(4), 6:4 at a competition in Budapest in 2016.
In the next round, Sabalenka will play Gabriela Ruse of Romania.
