Germany defeated Italy as a guest 2-1 in the first playoff 1/4-final match of the Nations League tournament, FOCUS reported.

In Milan, the Bundesteam achieved success after a turnaround in the second half, after trailing 0-1 at halftime.

With a goal by Sandro Tonali in the 9th minute, his second for the Italian national team, "squadra azzurra" pulled in the result.

During the first half, the hosts tactically left possession of the ball to the Bundesteam, managing to reach the more dangerous goal chances, one of which Tonali converted.

Strong performances in goal for the Bundesteam were made by Oliver Baumann, who was playing for the third time in an official match with the German national team.

After the break, Germany picked up the pace and in the 49th minute, reserve Tim Kleindienst completed an obligatory pass to Joshua Kimmich with a goal for 1:1.

Several more impressive interventions in goal for Germany by Baumann followed, leading to the 76th minute, when Leon Goretzka scored for the complete turnaround and 2:1 for Germany. The assist was again from Kimich.

The second leg is in Dortmund on March 23rd.
