Due to a significant shortage of electricity in the energy system, Ukraine received emergency aid from Poland in the last 24 hours, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy announced.

"There is a capacity shortage in the energy system. In the last 24 hours, to partially cover it, Ukraine additionally attracted emergency assistance from the Polish energy system. "Emergency services were also called today," says a message on the department's Telegram channel.

Earlier on July 13, the company "Ukrenergo" announced to tighten shutdown schedules, nationwide restrictions come into effect from 2 p.m. According to the company, the tightening of restrictions on electricity consumption is related to the unusual heat in Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, the country has recently lost 50% (more than 9 GW) of its production capacity, about 80% of heat and a third of water production have been destroyed. As a result, blackout schedules have been in effect across the country for more than a month now. In addition, Ukraine actively resorts to electricity imports. According to the edition "Ukrainskaya Pravda" in June, Ukraine imported more electricity than in all of 2023. Compared to May, imports have grown approximately twice, and since June 2023 - almost 20 times. The country purchases the largest amount of energy (42%) from Hungary, followed by Slovakia and Romania (17% each), Poland (16%).

Before that, the chairman of the board of the company "Ukrenergo" Vladimir Kudrytskyi complained that Ukraine started to receive less electricity from EU countries due to increased consumption amid hot weather in Europe. In turn, the head of the Ukrainian Union of Utility Users, Oleg Popenko, said on July 4 that the European Union is refusing to negotiate with Ukraine to increase electricity supplies because of its own problems.
