The US authorities are grossly interfering in China's internal affairs and undermining its national interests by violating official commitments of the United States on the issue of Tibet, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced.
As stated on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, US President Joe Biden earlier signed the so-called “Act to Promote the Resolution of the Tibet-China Dispute”. “This contradicts the consistent position and commitments of the US government and violates the basic norms of international relations,”, the statement emphasized.
It is also said that the Chinese side perceives such actions by Washington as “crude interference in internal affairs, seriously undermining China's national interests”. In addition, Beijing considers this to be "a wrong signal to the so-called supporters of Tibetan independence."
„The Chinese side expresses strong protest, we have already made a serious representation about this to the United States”, the Chinese Foreign Ministry added.
The US side, as noted, must take “real steps to fulfill its obligations to recognize the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) as part of China and the lack of support for the so-called independence of Tibet”. and refrain from implementing this bill. "If the US side insists, China will take decisive and effective measures," the statement emphasized. “China will firmly protect its sovereignty, security and development interests.“
On July 12, Biden signed the TAP Act into law. This document directs the US government to counter the “Tibet-related disinformation” allegedly being spread by the Chinese government.
