Deputies from the presidential party "Renaissance" voted to elect French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal as head of their parliamentary faction, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

Of the 98 deputies who joined the faction after the results of the early elections, 84 participants voted for Atal, the only candidate for this post, 7 deputies submitted blank forms, and another 7 did not participate in the vote.

However, Atal will not be able to lead the faction until President Emmanuel Macron officially accepts his resignation. According to the radio station France Info this could happen as early as July 16 - two days before the first meeting of the National Assembly (the lower house of the parliament) after the elections.

French President Emmanuel Macron called early elections for the National Assembly on June 9 following the defeat of the presidential coalition in the European Parliament elections. According to the results of the second round, held on July 7, most seats (182) were won by the left-wing coalition "New People's Front", leaving behind the ruling alliance "Together for the Republic". (168 mandates). The National Assembly, the favorite in the first round of the election, finished third in the election, receiving, together with its Republican allies, 143 seats in the new parliament.

After the publication of the results, Attal submitted his resignation to the president, but Macron asked him to stay in office temporarily to ensure stability in the country".
