"Egypt and Serbia advocate the need to achieve peace with the earliest possible resolution of the crisis in Ukraine", said Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who arrived on a visit to Cairo.
„At the international level, our discussions during the negotiations touched on various issues, above all the Ukrainian crisis,”, noted al-Sisi. “We emphasized the need to achieve peace as quickly as possible,” said the Egyptian president.
Al-Sisi also discussed with the Serbian president “the situation in Sudan and Libya in addition to the current crisis in the Gaza Strip”. The Egyptian leader noted “the importance of Serbia's role in establishing stability and strengthening cooperation in the Western Balkans region”. The Egyptian president indicated that the bilateral free trade agreement, signed during Vučić's current visit to Cairo, “will contribute to a significant increase in the growth rate of economic and trade relations between the countries”.
For his part, Vucic noted that during the conversation with al-Sisi “many regional issues were touched upon, including the Ukrainian crisis”, as well as “the development of ways of cooperation in the political and military spheres between Egypt and Serbia”. According to the Serbian president, the position of Egypt and Serbia is surprising in its own way, since currently “many countries are not calling for peace”.
Vucic highly appreciated the efforts of the Egyptian leadership to solve the regional problems “by which Egypt is surrounded, including the conflict in the Palestinian Gaza Strip”.
