US presidential candidate Donald Trump's allies assured Seoul, that they will support and even strengthen the alliance between the two countries if he wins the election, South Korea's national security adviser Jan Ho-jin announced.
„As for the allied relationship between South Korea and the US, we enjoy reliable support among both the ruling and opposition forces in the United States. Trump's team told us not to worry too much about the South Korea-US alliance, they even said they would strengthen it,” Jang Ho Jin said, quoted by Yonhap news agency.
The government of the Republic is preparing for various scenarios if Trump returns to power, he added.
In late June, the Institute for National Unification of the Republic of Korea, based on the results of an annual survey on the topic of the reunification of the two Korean states, reported that the majority of South Koreans would prefer the re-election of US President Joe Biden for more one mandate. At the same time, according to 51.1% of respondents, Trump could reduce the number of US troops stationed in the country, or even withdraw them entirely, if he returns to the White House.
