Vandals damaged telecommunications installations belonging to the French companies SFR and Bouygues Telecom, Le Parisien and BFM TV reported.
According to the sources, cables in electrical cabinets were cut in the south of France and installations in the regions of Meuse, near Luxembourg, and Oise, near Paris, were vandalized, mainly affecting fixed services.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen said a far-left extremist had been arrested in connection with the sabotage of France's high-speed rail network that caused traffic chaos ahead of the opening of the Paris Olympics. Although it is unclear whether the two incidents are related, authorities are investigating.
