Pyongyang: Our nuclear weapons are not a bargaining chip - 1

North Korea said its nuclear weapons cannot be subject to negotiations and that they are intended to fight against the enemies of the North Korean people and to ensure world peace, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The statement was released by North Korean state media KCNA after US President Donald Trump hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shoigu Ishiba at the White House earlier on Friday. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work towards ending Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.

The KCNA made no mention of the Trump-Ishiba meeting, but cited statements by NATO and EU officials who have called for North Korea's complete denuclearization.

"We say it again clearly: our nuclear weapons are not advertising... or even less a bargaining chip," the North Korean state media said in a statement. "Our nuclear forces are designed for unwavering combat action to swiftly eliminate any attempts by enemy forces to violate the sovereignty of our country and the security of our people and threaten world peace," the KCNA added.
