Four people were injured in a shooting near the Bielefeld District Court, where a case was being heard into the death of a former professional boxer. This was reported by DPA, quoted by BTA, citing police sources.

According to the sources, the incident was a targeted attack on people connected to the trial, with three shots fired.

Earlier, two people were reported injured, one of whom is in critical condition.

Two suspects were detained at the scene of the incident, but their involvement in the incident has not yet been clarified, police said, adding that a third person, with unclear involvement in the crime, is still at large.

Law enforcement agencies searched a building near the scene of the shooting. The weapon used to fire the shots has not yet been found.

Police officers earlier cordoned off the area around the Bielefeld District Court. A helicopter was also sent to the scene.

According to a court spokesman, the shots were fired shortly after the end of a hearing in the tightly guarded trial related to the death of Besar Nimani, a former world boxing champion.

Police said the first emergency calls were received from passersby at around 1:40 p.m. (2:40 p.m. Bulgarian time).

According to the Bielefeld prosecutor's office, Nimani was killed in March 2024 after being ambushed by two men.

The perpetrators are alleged to have fired 16 shots at Nimani. A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder, while another suspect is still at large. The motives of the perpetrators have not yet been established.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that today's shooting is related to the trial.
