The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to cancel more than 90% of the contracts of the Agency for International Development (USAID) and the State Department for foreign aid, the Associated Press reported.
The United States plans to stop $60 billion in foreign aid, and the plan was outlined in a memorandum and court documents filed on Wednesday.
It is noted that this was undertaken after a US court decision that ordered the ban on foreign aid funding to be lifted before the February 26 deadline.
The Trump administration effectively suspended USAID's activities on February 3. Trump appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the interim head of this structure, and the basis for the work stoppage came at the initiative of Elon Musk, whom the president appointed to head the new agency to improve the efficiency of the US government.
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on six companies from mainland China and Hong Kong for alleged supplies of components to Iranian drone and ballistic missile manufacturers, the department announced.
Of the mentioned companies, five are registered in Hong Kong and one in Shenzhen (Guangdong province). They are accused of supplying electronic components to the Iranian company Pishtazan Kavosh Gostar Boshra (PKGB) and its subsidiary Narin Sepehr Mobin Isatis (NSMI). The company itself has been under US sanctions since 2019, and the branch was blacklisted by the US Treasury in 2024.
