The European Council will hold an extraordinary meeting on March 6, at which the first short-term solutions to enhance Europe's sovereignty, capabilities and preparedness for immediate and future security challenges will be discussed, BTA reports.
This is stated in a letter from European Council President Antonio Costa to the participants in the meeting.
Costa announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also been invited to the meeting in Brussels. The main topics of the meeting will be European defense and support for Ukraine, in the context of international initiatives to achieve peace.
In his words, efforts must lead to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.
The President of the European Council expressed his expectation that EU leaders would discuss the possibilities for additional support for Ukraine.
He stressed that the EU is ready to take greater responsibility for the security of the continent and that it needs to be prepared for a possible European contribution to the security guarantees necessary to achieve sustainable peace in Ukraine.
