French President Emmanuel Macron and future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have agreed to open a new chapter in Franco-German relations, Reuters reports, citing a source, News.bg reports.
During their meeting at the Elysee Palace, the two leaders reached agreement on a number of key issues related to joint initiatives.
Macron, who met with US President Donald Trump in Washington earlier this week, briefed EU leaders on the results of the talks.
Merz, whose conservative party won Germany's snap election, is expected to begin talks to form a coalition with the Social Democrats of current Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
He has repeatedly stressed that Europe must stand united in the face of the new Trump administration and accelerate the development of independent defense capabilities.
