The renewed contacts with the US administration inspire hope and there is a mutual desire to establish cooperation. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, quoted by TASS.
"We all see how quickly the world, the situation in the world, is changing. In this regard, I would like to note that the first contacts with the new US administration inspire certain hopes," he noted at a meeting of the Federal Security Service.
"There is a mutual commitment to work on restoring interstate relations and gradually resolving the huge amount of accumulated systemic and strategic problems in the global architecture," Putin added.
He emphasized that some Western elites are making attempts to disrupt the current communication between Russia and the US, so all opportunities must be used to counter these efforts.
"We understand that not everyone welcomes the resumption of Russian-American contacts. Some Western elites remain committed to maintaining global instability," Putin noted. "These forces will try to thwart or discredit the nascent dialogue".
"We must take this into account and use all available diplomatic and intelligence resources to thwart such attempts", he insisted.
At the meeting, the president also pointed out that Ukrainian special services had planned more than half of the attacks in Russia.
"Over the past year, the number of terrorist crimes has increased, more than half of which were planned and organized by Ukrainian special services and their leaders," he pointed out.
"The FSB must continue its systematic work in all specialized areas and, first of all, of course, in the fight against international terrorism," Putin stressed.
The forces of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in Donbas and Novorossiya are doing a lot to neutralize terrorists and saboteurs, and their potential must be be strengthened, he added.
