Sales of Mercedes-Benz electric models in the third quarter of 2024 fell catastrophically. Total sales of the EQB, EQE and EQS models are down 42% compared to the same period last year.
Last year, the company sold 9,984 electric cars in the US, while this year - only 5,769. Mercedes does not provide separate sales figures for each of the three models, so it is currently impossible to say clearly which is selling better - the crossovers or the sedans.
Anyway, things are not looking good for the EQ brand. And in connection with these results, the management of Mercedes-Benz admitted that the plan for full electrification of the model range was too ambitious.
The company quickly refocused, and Mercedes boss Ola Kalenius confirmed that Mercedes-Benz will move to a strategy similar to BMW's approach: the brand's lineup will include electric and gasoline versions of the S-Class, instead of the new EQS.

And recently it became known that the model with an internal combustion engine will be produced until 2030. The rest of the models will follow the example of the S-Class. But the poor sales of electric cars do not prevent the brand from selling well in general.
Despite the negative result of the electric models, Mercedes-Benz's overall sales increased by 11% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2023, mainly thanks to the manufacturer's large line of LPG SUVs.
But not only off-road and diesel vehicles are seeing growth in sales. Incidentally, the CLE two-door model - an all-new model this year - is another popular model, with more than 10,000 units sold in the US in 2024.
