Egypt strongly condemned as “irresponsible and completely unacceptable” the statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the establishment of a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, the “Al Ahram” newspaper reported, quoted by BTA.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the proposal as a direct violation of Saudi sovereignty and a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. Such reckless statements by Israel undermine the security and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia, which Egypt considers a “red line” and whose crossing will not be tolerated, Cairo said.
The foreign ministry also stressed that Saudi Arabia's stability and national security are an integral part of Egyptian and Arab security and stability and must not be jeopardized.
Netanyahu said yesterday that Saudi Arabia has enough land to provide the Palestinians with a state. “The Saudis can create a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, they have a lot of land there,“ the Israeli prime minister said in a televised speech during his visit to the United States.
The Saudi foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it would not normalize ties with Israel unless a Palestinian state is created. "Saudi Arabia will continue its tireless efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without this", the Saudi ministry said in a statement.
