The BSP plenum decided to cancel the direct election of the party chairman at the meeting it held today. However, for this change to become a fact, it must be approved by the Socialist Congress, which will be held next weekend – February 15 and 16.
Thus, the future leader of the Socialists will most likely be elected only by the party Congress, bTV reports.
The BSP National Council also canceled the bans related to mandates, adopted during the rule of former leader Cornelia Ninova.
It is proposed to drop the limit of three mandates per MP in parliament.
The National Council also came up with another proposal – to remove the restriction that a member of parliament does not have the right to be the chairman of a BSP party organization.
All changes voted by the BSP National Council must be voted on by the party Congress, which can confirm or reject them.
The candidates for the new chairman of the BSP are currently 16, after the chairman of the parliamentary group of the Socialists, Dragomir Stoynev, withdrew his candidacy.
