Bulgarian soldiers for foreign soil will not participate, and they will not die. GERB leader Boyko Borisov stood behind this position, quoted by Nova TV.
„Back in 2024 I stated GERB's position that a Bulgarian soldier would not go to Ukraine. I am glad that the president took the same position today. Tonight at the SSU, I think we will make sure that all parties in the ruling coalition support this decision of ours from more than a year ago”, he also said.
The GERB leader explained that this does not mean that there will be no support for Ukraine for its restoration in all forms.
„I hope that this position, which the GERB mandate holder has and is welcomed by President Radev today, will be confirmed by everyone - Bulgarian soldiers for foreign soil will not die and will not participate”, Borisov added.
We recall that earlier today, President Rumen Radev emphasized that as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, he is absolutely against sending military personnel to Ukraine. His position came in a comment on the US official inquiry sent to European allies, including Bulgaria, regarding their readiness to participate in the process of guaranteeing Kiev's security.
Borisov also announced his talks with the leaders of the EPP, EC President Ursula von der Leyen and Manfred Weber. GERB has announced its insistence that the deficit in the defense industry be brought below the line. This, he said, is extremely important not only for the rearmament of our armed forces, but also for the deficit for the strategic goal of our entry into the eurozone.
„I also touched on the topic of energy - that our energy potential is such that we can continue to help Ukraine with energy. Of course - for a fee. In the area of other support, which is requested from many member states, there are European funds and money that are meant for the reconstruction of Ukraine. We will participate in solidarity with everyone, but I repeat - no money will be spent from our budget in this direction,”, Borisov said.
