Atanas Slavov: We will support the defense budget - 1

PP-DB will support the budget in its defense part at second reading, MP and former Justice Minister Atanas Slavov said in "Speak Now". According to him, important modernization reforms are planned, and PP-DB will insist that even more funds be allocated for defense next year.

However, the MP criticized the rest of the 2025 budget plan.

"This budget should get us into the eurozone and whether we get a decision, we will be able to evaluate it comprehensively. Hopefully, this 3% deficit will not be exceeded. In this budget, reforms are actually not foreseen, but huge funds are to be poured into existing systems - an example is the Ministry of Interior.

PP-DB will not support texts that envisage providing funds without reforms or "pouring money into a bottomless pit".

Europe is becoming stronger, more united and is taking on the shape of a federal union in the field of defense, Slavov commented on the rearmament plan announced by the EC.

"Reforms in the security environment are imperative. Whether they are loans or another form of financing - it does not matter, because 800 billion in the field of defense have a high return. These are investments in technology, human resources, a new level of the systems that are currently functioning".

We should be at the core, not on the periphery of the EU, and Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov should be supported in his request for Bulgaria to participate in the peace talks for Ukraine, Slavov also said.

The redirection of money from the PVP to rearmament can take place after a complex negotiation process, Atanas Slavov believes.

"We are on the side of those who want the Recovery Plan to work and the money to really come to Bulgaria. There will be renegotiations, let's see what the EU will offer and reach an agreement that is good for our country".
