KITUB: Gender inequality still exists in our country - 1

On Women's Day for another year, the unions conclude that gender inequality still exists in our country. According to KITUB data, in terms of pay, women in Bulgaria earn 13% lower salaries on average than men, Nova TV reports.

The unions give two examples - one in sectors dominated by men, and the other in those in which there are more women. In finance and insurance, 72% of employees are women, but they earn 35% lower salaries because they occupy lower positions, while the remaining 28%, who are men, are in management positions. The same applies to the "Hotel and restaurant" sector, where women earn 28% lower salaries. Two sectors are mainly occupied by men - "Energy" and "Information Technology". There, the few employed women continue to be in lower positions and with lower incomes. The data was provided by the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions.

"Women are very few in these high-paying economic activities. About 30% of women are present. This is impressive, as men dominate in the three high-paying economic activities, while women dominate in the three low-paying ones," said Violeta Ivanova, from the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions.
