Those crossing a pedestrian crossing who use a mobile phone will be fined, legal changes are planned, Chief Inspector Lachezar Bliznakov from the Traffic Police announced. He specified that this applies to the use of a mobile phone regardless of whether they are talking or texting. The amount of the fine is still to be discussed, Chief Inspector Bliznakov also said:
"As participants in traffic, pedestrians have an obligation to consider their behavior before using their right to cross a pedestrian crossing, to ensure that there is no danger for them when crossing, and also in this regard to ensure the necessary attention on their part by not being distracted by side activities. It is only about pedestrian crossings, when pedestrians cross marked pedestrian crossings - in order to ensure the necessary attention when crossing the roadway, such a penalty is provided for".
