One of the mobile operators has applied an unfair commercial practice by requesting an inflated amount and charging a penalty for terminating a contract of a deceased person. This is stated in a statement by the Chairperson of the Consumer Protection Commission Maria Filipova.

"In this specific case, based on the results of an inspection, the Consumer Protection Commission has established that "Yettel Bulgaria" EAD has provided false and misleading information to the grieving heirs of a deceased subscriber about the amount of the amounts owed under the contract. When visiting the operator's business premises in order to terminate the contract in accordance with the procedure specified therein, the heirs requested information about the amount of the obligations, and instead of the real value, the operator's employees informed them that the obligations under the contract were worth 312.43 BGN. The consumers paid the amount in question, despite the lack of information about its origin, after which they turned to the Consumer Protection Commission for assistance," said Maria Filipova.

After the inspection carried out by the Consumer Protection Commission, it was established that the actual obligation under the contract was 252.36 leva lower than the initial amount indicated by the operator. The amount in question should be refunded back to the consumers, BNT specified.

The events unfolded in February of this year, which in no way corresponds to the publicly stated intentions of "Yettel Bulgaria" to be committed to resolving consumer problems, as repeatedly declared by its representatives since the beginning of 2025, including through publications in the media, added Maria Filipova.
