"The government cannot cope with illegal landfills. Every day we give 200 new signals. What is being done is to flood them from above, destroying the soil. We are becoming the biggest polluter in the EU. We see criminality on the part of the institutions that control this process. The mayors cannot cope without the RIEW, the basin directorate. This could be fixed in a week. But the violators are actually vote buyers. We have evidence of how the basin directorates and the RIEW are replacing documents. The institutions play along with those who pollute. The prosecutor's office is not working, the police are not working. We are desperate in our efforts to change something, "said Ivelin Mihaylov.
Krassimira Katincharova from "Velicie" specified that so far they have filed over 2,500 reports with the regional environmental and water inspectorates, but in 80% of cases they do not react.
"When we launched the campaign on illegal landfills, it turned out that there is no village where there is no such landfill. We have a fairly intensive information campaign on our channels. A fair fine can reach 10,000 leva. This is 30 million leva. Our goal is to increase the level of intolerance. We have over 200 emails to the media and to all parties, there is not a single response. Europe is a source of strict environmental legislation. "There are parts that are omitted when transposing the legislation," Katincharova pointed out.
