This was said in the program "Osche od dny" on BNT by former Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov in connection with the proposal of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov after today's meeting "Peace and Security for Ukraine" in Paris to form a multinational maritime coordination center to ensure the safety of shipping in the western part of the Black Sea and for our country to host this center.
If an agreement on shipping between the USA, Ukraine and Russia is reached, he will simply take over this function. It is normal for life in the Black Sea to continue and someone should control this process, Karakachanov added.
He also commented on the discussion of the possibility of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine.
As far as I understand, it is about sending a contingent after peace is concluded, but I do not see such a peace being concluded. In my opinion, this meeting in Paris undermines the foundations of peace. For example, Macron says - no one can dictate to us whether to give weapons to Ukraine or not, and one of the conditions for a 30-day ceasefire is that Ukraine stops arming itself, the former defense minister said.
The statements that sanctions against Russia will not be lifted until it returns the annexed territories to Ukraine are also in this direction. All this rhetoric is directed as opposition to Trump's efforts. They are trying to make a fool of him, he is trying to give it back to them in another way, Krasimir Karakachanov pointed out.
I do not agree that Trump is speaking with Putin's narrative. There are realities in a war. It is not good to seize territories, but some of the European leaders who say that Putin should return territories to Ukraine, let them return the territories seized by their countries in previous wars. These talks are aimed at preventing the war from stopping and preventing Trump's attempts to achieve peace. Unfortunately, there has never been a just peace in history. There is no way for the losing country to regain its territories. Europe's efforts should not be aimed at sabotaging Trump, but at participating in this conversation, Karakachanov noted.
According to him, the visit of the management of the German arms company "Rheinmetall" in our country is good news for the Bulgarian military industry.
This is the largest European arms company. The question is what we want to achieve - whether we will buy, whether we will only produce ammunition or whether we will try to convince them that they should invest in our arms industry. If it comes to investments, that is very good, commented the former Minister of Defense.
