Ruse – Giurgiu is open for passenger cars and light trucks, announced the regional governor Dragomir Draganov. He and the chairman of the Management Board of the Agency “Road Infrastructure“ Eng. Yordan Valchev were on the bridge when the traffic for passenger cars was opened and monitored the activities on the ground. At Draganov's request, all six routes exiting the country towards Romania are working so that there is no delay in paying the toll for passing through the facility.
The capacity shows that within about 10 minutes, about 150 passenger cars pass through the bridge in one direction. The institutions are ready to cope with an increase in traffic.
As for heavy goods traffic, trucks are scheduled to be allowed to cross the Danube Bridge tomorrow morning at 09:00. All 4 routes exiting Bulgaria will also be open for them. The authorities are also ready to assist in sorting the traffic.
Draganov commented that thanks to the joint efforts of all state institutions and the excellent coordination between the Regional Administration, Ministry of Interior, Border Police, RIA and MRDPW, there have been no traffic jams on the road network in the entire region.
Due to the complete repair of the Danube Bridge and the need to connect the reinforced concrete panels of the two lanes in the overpass section of the bridge, which is 413 meters long, the facility had to be temporarily closed. This ensures that vibrations are avoided during the technological process of obtaining the initial strength of the concrete, which serves as a connection between the panels of the two strips.
