A Bulgarian driver has been arrested in Greece with over 100 kg of marijuana in his truck. This is also one of the largest single cannabis shipments seized in the country. He could receive up to 20 years in prison for the crime, BNR reports.
The security of the port of Igoumenitsa announced the arrest of the Bulgarian driver for the illegal transportation of 111 kilograms of cannabis.
The truck arrived by ferry from Italy, and the illegal cargo in 113 hermetically sealed packages was discovered during a routine check with a police dog.
The envelopes with the drug were found in a cache in the truck's refrigerator, but also in the legally transported goods and in the driver's cabin.
The authorities report that the transported variety of marijuana is particularly strong and can cause psychosis after use.
The amount of cannabis transported by the Bulgarian driver is among the largest ever seized on Greek territory.
The Bulgarian driver was arrested and handed over to the prosecutor's office in Igoumenitsa. His mobile phones and the truck were confiscated.
