We used to have a very good veterinary laboratory, which was at the Agricultural Academy. There was also a research Institute of Veterinary Work there. Modernly furnished, with a good base. After we entered the European Union, this law on food was adopted and this large structure was created, which also unites veterinarians. There is an independent laboratory in all European countries, and its normal place is with scientists. There was something that could be done better with infected animals. This was announced to Lili Marinkova in the studio “FACT“ and the program “Conversation“ by Assoc. Prof. Ognyan Boyukliev from the Institute of Economics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
“There simply should be a state laboratory. When there are such differences, such doubts, she should intervene. But there is a veterinary crisis in our country, because we have destroyed our veterinary profession. Let's face it. We have excellent veterinary medicine with many traditions. In 1921 - during the time of Stamboliyski, our veterinary education was created with Rockefeller money. During the socialist era, every veterinarian who went to the West could start working immediately. The doctor could not, but had to take exams. Our veterinarians were in great demand. Now, unfortunately, there are no veterinarians," he added.
“The Europeans have adopted a standard when there is an infected herd. They fence it off, restrict its movement. And in our country, they did nothing for two months. The area simply had to be cordoned off, puddles made to disinfect the cars. But in a liquidated country, it is normal for people not to trust the administration. The Ministry of Agriculture is almost as much as the army as a bureaucratic apparatus – agencies, institutes, units … what's inside“, the guest added.
