The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, again praised the Islamist groups for their conflict with Israel, DPA and BTA reported.
"The army that claims to be one of the strongest in the world has failed in its own country," Khamenei told thousands of supporters in the capital Tehran.
The conflict in the Gaza Strip has set "the Zionist regime on a path that will only end in disintegration and destruction," he added.
The supreme leader of the Islamic Republic made the comments during a speech marking the 35th anniversary of the death of Iran's revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The speech took place in Khomeini's mausoleum in the southern part of the capital.
Separately from the events in Tehran, I.D. Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Bagheri Khani visited Lebanon today.
His predecessor in office, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19 along with President Ebrahim Raisi, made several trips to Beirut during the current conflict in the Gaza Strip to meet with pro-Iranian militia leaders " ;Hezbollah" and the Palestinian group "Islamic Jihad".
Iran provides financial and diplomatic support to the Palestinian armed group "Hamas", which during the devastating attacks on October 7 in southern Israel killed 1,200 people and captured 250 hostages, DPA notes.
Israel responded with a more than eight-month-long invasion of Gaza, which has sparked outrage among the international community due to the massive humanitarian losses in the Palestinian enclave. The "Hamas"-led The Gaza Ministry of Health claims that more than 36,400 people have been killed during the Israeli military operation.
Israel and Iran have been at odds since 1979, when the Islamic Revolution ousted Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and installed the current regime. The countries have come close to war more than once, and last month, after an escalation of tension between them, there was an exchange of missile and drone attacks, Reuters notes.
