The heads of the European Council and the European Commission, Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen, together with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Mezzola, spoke of support for former US President Donald Trump following the assassination attempt on him during a public speech to supporters in Pennsylvania.
„Political violence is absolutely unacceptable in a democracy. “I strongly condemn the attack on former President Donald Trump”, Michelle wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Von der Leyen also expressed his condolences to the family of the rally participant who died in the assassination attempt. “I am deeply shocked by the shooting that occurred during a campaign rally for former President Trump. I wish Donald Trump a speedy recovery and my condolences to the family of the innocent victim. “Political violence has no place in democracy,” she noted in X.
Mezzola also stressed that political violence has no place in Western countries. "Shocked by the horrific attack at a rally against former President Trump in Pennsylvania. My thoughts are with him and with the victims”, the politician wrote in X.
