Egypt, Qatar continue efforts for Gaza peace - 1

Egypt and Qatar, which are mediating indirect talks between the Palestinian movement Hamas and Israeli authorities, are making efforts to reach agreements despite obstacles put up by Israel. This was stated by a representative of the leadership of the radical movement.

"Egypt and Qatar continue their efforts to reach an agreement on a cease-fire in Gaza and Israeli aggression, despite Israel's policy of resistance," a Hamas spokesman was quoted as saying by the TV channel Al- Cairo al-Ikhbariya.

According to him, “negotiations have been at a standstill for some time due to the intransigence of the Israeli side and the tactics [of Israel] to delay and postpone the negotiations”. In addition, the representative of the radical movement added that Israel “laid out new conditions that go beyond the scope of the last proposal”. to resolve the conflict in the Palestinian sector.

Some time ago, Hamas denied the information that it allegedly decided to stop indirect negotiations with the Israeli side on Gaza. As the official representative of the radical movement, Izzat al-Rishq, stated, published by the French Agence France Presse and distributed by some media, regarding the decision by Hamas to break off negotiations on a settlement agreement in Gaza in response to an attack by Israeli forces near Khan Younis, “there is no grounds“. He noted that “one of the goals of the new escalation by (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu's government is to block the way to reaching agreements that will stop (Israeli) aggression against the Palestinian people”. Ar Rishk added that “now after the Israeli attack near Khan Yunis it has become obvious to everyone.“

On July 13, Israeli forces launched an attack in the Al Mawasi area near the town of Khan Younis, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. According to the enclave's Ministry of Health, 90 Palestinians were killed and about 300 wounded as a result of this attack. As the department pointed out, almost half of the dead were women and children. The strike affected an area where there were tents for temporarily displaced persons. According to the Al Hadath TV channel, Rafia Salama, the leader of the militant wing of the Palestinian movement Hamas in Khan Younis, was killed as a result of an Israeli attack. According to Al Hadath, the main objective of the bombing of Al-Mawasi was to eliminate the head of the Hamas military wing, Mohammed al-Deif. There is still no accurate information on the condition and whereabouts of the leader of the Hamas military wing.
