At this stage, China has no interest in supporting Russian industrial capacity. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this during his five-day visit to China, the Italian national agency ANSA reported.
Although, as we know, Beijing is not directly involved - obviously this creates friction because we have written this in every possible way and I have highlighted it and I hope it becomes clear that this nation can really play a key role (for peace in Ukraine - note ed.), Meloni continued.
In her words during her meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping the previous day, "we were certainly quite clear in discussing the issue" on China's support for Russia, "trying to reason together about the nature of everyone's interests".
Melloni also noted that President Xi Jinping has said that "China always works for peaceful coexistence among peoples" and now the Italian Prime Minister has called for steps to be taken in this direction.
We remind you that at the end of July, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba also visited China. During the talks with his colleague Wang Yi Kuleba also emphasized that a just end to the war in Ukraine is in Beijing's interest and, in particular, it facilitates its trade with Europe.
After the meeting between the two foreign ministers, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman told a regular press conference in Beijing that they discussed the need to take a long-term view of building bilateral ties and that China would "continue to expand its food imports from Ukraine".
