More than half of Ukrainians (57%) believe that the war with Russia will last for a long time, of which 18% believe that it will last another year or two, and 17% are convinced that the war will last from two to five years. This is according to data from a survey by the National Democratic Institute and the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, conducted in May, reports "Ukrainskaya Pravda".
The survey was conducted by telephone interview based on the random generation of mobile numbers; 2,508 adult residents of Ukraine were interviewed. This number does not include those living in the temporarily occupied territories as of February 23, 2022 (Crimea, the occupied regions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions).
Ukrainians living in territories occupied after February 24, 2022 were surveyed on the condition that they felt safe to answer questions, the sociologists who conducted the survey said.
14% of respondents believe that the war will end in 6-12 months, and approximately every 13th Ukrainian believes that the war will last more than 5 years.
More than a third of the respondents found it difficult to answer this question.
Compared to previous surveys, the number of Ukrainians who believe in a quick end to the war has decreased.
In May 2024, the smallest number of Ukrainians thought the war would end in 3-6 months (5% compared to 17% in May 2022 and 22% in January 2023).
