The European Commission (EC) imposed a quarantine on the entire Pazardzhik region due to the plague of small ruminants, according to decision EU 2024/3109, taken on December 6.
The measures will be in force until February 7, 2025. and include a ban on animals raised there leaving the territory of the district. This is part of the efforts to limit the spread of the infection, News.bg.

The decision of the EC includes a series of restrictive measures that affect the Pazardzhik region, with the aim of controlling the situation with the plague of small ruminants. The main measure is the ban on the movement of animals outside the district, with the measures introduced for a certain period, until February 7, 2025.
Establishment of a temporary committee in Parliament
In response to the epidemiological situation, the Bulgarian Parliament established a temporary committee to consider issues related to plague of small ruminants. This move followed the insistence of the Ministry of Ecology and Climate Change (MECH).
Commission Composition
The temporary commission is made up of representatives of various political parties. Desislava Taneva and Dafinka Semerdzhieva from GERB, from PP-DB - Ivaylo Shotev and Lyuben Ivanov, from "Vazrazhdane" - Stoyan Taslakov and Daniel Petrov, from "DPS-New beginning" - Atidje Aliyeva-Veli and Nebie Kabak, from the BSP - Ivan Ivanov and Krasimir Yordanov, and from "Democracy, rights and freedoms" - DPS - Ahmed Vranchev and Mehmed Sali, the latter being elected as deputy chairman.
Changes in the leadership of the commission
At the beginning of the commission's work, ITN proposed Dragomir Petrov and Andrey Chorbanov as chairmen. After the break, however, the party withdrew Petrov's nomination and proposed him as deputy chairman. In the end, MECH nominated Borislav Petkov as chairman, and Radostin Vasilev was elected as a member of the commission. Borislav Petkov headed the commission, which will have a major role in the coordination of actions against the plague.
