The team of the co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and candidate for Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Alice Weidel has been in contact with Elon Musk's entourage for some time, Der Spiegel reported, citing information from Weidel's representative Daniel Tap.
“Weidel's team is in constant contact with Musk's team“, he told the publication. “Elon Musk became interested in the AfD program a few months ago“, added Tap. He said that there had not yet been a personal phone call or meeting between Weidel and Musk. “But that will probably change soon“, said a representative of the AfD chancellor candidate.
The possibility of holding a kind of talk show with the politician and Musk online in X is being discussed in particular.
Musk has publicly supported the AfD on several occasions. In an article published in Welt am Sonntag, Musk expressed the opinion that Germany is at a critical stage - its future is moving on the brink of economic and cultural collapse and the "Alternative for Germany" is "the last spark of hope" for Germany. Musk previously wrote in X that “only AfD can save Germany“.
In Germany, such support has caused outrage and criticism from other parties, and German government representative Christiane Hoffmann called Musk's public calls to vote for AfD an attempt to interfere in the country's election battle.
In Germany, AfD is called a right-wing populist party. Other political forces consider it impossible to cooperate with it within the framework of any coalition - neither at the federal nor at the regional level. At the same time, according to recent opinion polls, AfD's rating is at the level of 18-20%.
