Turkish security forces have "neutralized" 13 fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, Turkey's National Defense Ministry announced on Sunday, Anadolu Agency reported, quoted by BTA.
The terrorists were attacked in the Hakurk, Gara and Metina regions, the ministry announced on the social network "Ex". "Our Turkish armed forces will resolutely continue operations until the last terrorist is neutralized," the statement added.
Turkish authorities use the term "neutralization" to mean that the terrorists in question have surrendered or been killed or captured, the Anadolu Agency said.
The PKK has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since 1984 and is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, the EU and the United States. Tens of thousands have died in the conflict. PKK fighters have bases in northern Iraq and are active in northern Syria. PKK terrorists often hide in northern Iraq to plan cross-border attacks against Turkey, the agency added.
