US President Donald Trump signed an executive order supporting the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees the right to own firearms, the White House press service reported.

The Minister of Justice - US Attorney General Pam Bondi has been instructed to examine within 30 days all previous orders and regulations of the US authorities, as well as international agreements concluded by Washington, to determine whether they constitute "infringement on the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment".

In addition, Bondi has been ordered to work with the White House Domestic Policy Council to prepare a "presidential action plan" aimed at "protecting the Second Amendment rights of all Americans."

According to estimates by the non-governmental organization Gun Violence Archive, various types of shooting incidents in the United States in 2024 claimed the lives of more than 16.7 thousand people and injured more than 31.6 thousand. Repeated mass shootings in recent years have intensified the debate about what steps should be taken to tighten gun control. In recent years, the US federal government has made several similar attempts, but they have been largely unsuccessful.

The previous US administration, led by Democrat Joe Biden, admitted that it had exhausted the powers available to the executive branch. The US Republican Party, led by Trump, actually opposes stricter gun control.
