A state of emergency has been declared in the Nevelsky district of the Russian Sakhalin region after a foreign ship ran aground near the island, the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on its Telegram channel.

The bulk carrier An Yang 2 has run aground due to a strong storm. There are 20 crew members on board the ship, all Chinese citizens. They have been provided with food and water and do not require medical assistance. As reported by the press service of the regional government, the ship was loaded with coal, fuel oil and engine oil, no fuel spill was detected.

“A state of emergency of a municipal nature has been declared in the Nevelsky district,“ the message says. Earlier, the crisis management center of the main administration received information about a foreign ship stranded at the mouth of the Kazachka River in Nevelsk.

It is noted that no fuel spill was observed. Constant monitoring of the coastline has been organized. The Russian Emergencies Ministry is sending 16 people and 7 units of equipment.

„Our main task is continuous monitoring of the coastline for the presence of oil products. We will do this every few hours. People will go out to the coastline and conduct observations. "Our local Rospotrebnadzor office will also take water samples daily to check for traces of petroleum products," said the head of the Nevelsky district, Alexei Shabelnik, in a video posted on his Telegram channel.

The Telegram channel of the Ministry of Digital and Technological Development of the Sakhalin Region reports that, on the instructions of the governor of the region, Valery Limarenko, today the situation near the stranded ship is being monitored using the unmanned aerial vehicle "Brazhnik". The drone allows for the rapid collection of up-to-date data on the condition of the vessel and the area around it. All the information received has been sent to the operational headquarters for further analysis and decision-making.
