The President of the Republic of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova visited the hospitals in Skopje today, where some of the victims of the fire that broke out last night in a disco in the city of Kochani, which killed 51 people and injured 118, are being treated, MIA reported. She said that the tragedy is terrible and should never be repeated.

„I can't say anything, it's terrible. I know that these are young, brave people. I believe that the doctors here will save most of them. I can't understand how this could happen. Some of them are in contact, but that's all," said Silyanovska-Davkova, quoted by BTA.

She noted that she shares the pain of the parents of the young people.

"This is something that should be anticipated, since it is not something we are facing for the first time," added Silyanovska-Davkova.

A total of 51 people died and 118 were injured last night in the "Pulse" disco in Kochani in a fire that broke out during a concert by the popular band "DNA". According to initial reports, the fire was caused by sparks from pyrotechnics used for lighting effects at the concert.

Earlier today, at a press conference in Kocani, North Macedonia's Interior Minister Panče Toškovski announced that several people had been arrested and were being questioned. Local media reported that the owner of the disco was among those arrested.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski called earlier today on all responsible institutions to take urgent measures to help the victims and support the affected families.

Bulgarian state institutions assured that Bulgaria shares North Macedonia's pain after the fire in Kocani and is ready to send assistance.

Silyanovska-Davkova noted that Serbia has also offered assistance to North Macedonia for the treatment of those injured in the fires.
