Washington's European allies are changing their approach to supporting Kiev, bringing it into line with the position of US President Donald Trump, who has expressed a desire for talks with Moscow. This assessment is given in an article published on Tuesday in the newspaper Politico.
"The strategy for Ukraine is quietly changing in Europe in line with the change in the tone of US statements - from promises of unwavering support to attempts to bring Kiev to the negotiating table while securing a favorable position for it," the publication notes. It states that the leaders of European countries, in connection with Trump's statements about his intention to end the conflict in Ukraine, demonstrate a desire to “play a leading role in peace negotiations“.
As the publication believes, “this new strategy will be most clearly manifested this week at the Munich Security Conference“, which will be held from February 14 to 16. According to the newspaper's assessment, this time the event will be held differently than under the administration of the previous American leader, Democrat Joe Biden. At the conference, the US and its allies expressed their readiness to support Kiev for as long as necessary.
According to the publication's source, representatives of Ukraine and the US have “discussed long-term security guarantees“ before the conference. “This concerned weapons and intelligence assets, such as satellites, which the Europeans could not provide,“ the article said.
