Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that "only firm steps and pressure" can stop Russia, after today's attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev, which claimed at least one victim, Reuters and Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
"Putin is not preparing for peace - he continues to kill Ukrainians and destroy cities", Zelensky said in an address to Russian President Vladimir Putin in the "Telegram" application and on the social platform "Facebook".
"Right now we need the unity and support of our partners in the fight for a just end to this war," he added.
According to him, Russia attacked last night with ballistic missiles and drones, Ukrinform notes. Damage was caused to apartment buildings, business buildings and civil infrastructure. All services are working at the sites of the strikes to help the victims and neutralize the consequences of the terror, the Ukrainian agency said.
"Unfortunately, at this stage we have information about one person who died in Kiev. Four more people were injured, including a child. My condolences to their relatives and friends”, Zelensky added.
As the head of state emphasized, “this Russian terror against Ukraine will not stop by itself”, Ukrinform explains.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that today's strikes on Kiev are part of the concept of achieving “peace through force”, TASS and Reuters reported.
”Peace through force, you say? Sometimes this concept really works, demonstrating a real, not someone's invented balance of power, as today in Kiev with the arrival of our missiles and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles - ed.)," the former president and prime minister of Russia wrote on his channel in the "Telegram" application.
Medvedev described as "absurd" Kiev's proposal to exchange captured Russian territory for parts of Ukraine controlled by Moscow.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army announced that it had shot down 6 of the 7 ballistic missiles launched by Russia last night and 71 drones from Russia.
The Ukrainian military specified that 40 of the 123 drones sent by the Russian troops were most likely deflected by electronic warfare means and, accordingly, did not cause damage.
