Orban: Russia will be reintegrated into world economy after peace deal - 1

Russia will be "reintegrated" into the world economy and the European energy system after a peace deal is reached that will end the war in Europe, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.

"If the US president comes and establishes peace, if an agreement is reached, I think Russia will be reintegrated into the world economy… in the European security system and even in the economic and energy system, which will give a significant boost to the Hungarian economy," Orbán said in an interview with Hungarian state radio.

US President Donald Trump said that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky have expressed a desire for peace and that he has ordered US officials to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

Since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Orbán has repeatedly criticized EU sanctions against Moscow, as well as the financial and military support for Kiev provided by Brussels. Despite efforts by some Western European countries to reduce their dependence on Russian energy, between 80 and 85% of Hungary's gas supplies continue to come from Russia, and a significant portion of its crude oil also comes from Russia.
