Pope Francis may remain in Rome's "Gemelli" hospital for several days after being admitted today for treatment and examinations for bronchitis and breathing difficulties, ANSA news agency reported, citing sources close to the pope's entourage, quoted by BTA.
Francis, who is undergoing further tests, may remain in hospital for up to five days.
The Vatican confirmed that the pope was admitted this morning to the "Agostino Gemelli" hospital for mandatory diagnostic examinations and continued treatment for his bronchitis.
The 88-year-old Pope Francis has been on the papal throne since 2013. and has suffered from flu and other health problems several times over the past two years.
Earlier this month, he told pilgrims during his regular weekly audience that he was suffering from a "bad cold", which was later confirmed as bronchitis by the Vatican.
