Elon Musk, who heads the department that is carrying out cuts to the federal administration and federal budget funds in the US, has called on federal officials to take stock of what they have done, because otherwise they will lose their jobs, BTA reported.
Employees will receive an email in response to which they must tell how they did in the past week. “Lack of response will be taken as resignation“, Musk told “Ex“. The response must be given by tomorrow night at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
On his platform “Truth Social“ Donald Trump recommended that Musk do his job more aggressively on Friday because the administration “has a country to save”.
The Trump administration began laying off thousands of federal employees who are on probation last week. Previously, it organized a voluntary resignation of employees in exchange for maintaining their salaries until the end of September, and more than 75,000 federal officials have accepted this offer, according to the “Washington Post“.
Meanwhile, Argentine President Javier Milley urged the enthusiastic audience at the conservative political forum in the United States to continue supporting the measures for cutting the administration, the AP reported.
Milley said that his methods are similar to those applied by US President Donald Trump and his close ally Elon Musk. "The only rational path is to reduce the size of the government as much as possible," Milley said, referring to cutting the state administration and government spending.
The Argentine president participated in perhaps the most memorable moment of this year's edition of the Conservative Political Action Conference, which is being held in Maryland, the AP notes. Then he stood on stage next to Musk, who was brandishing a chainsaw Millay had given him, a symbolic gesture indicating his intention to drastically cut back on the administration.
"Our method is similar to that of our dear friend Elon Musk," Millay said. "We go from office to office, keep what works and get rid of the rest. That's why I gave him the chainsaw," the president added.
In his speech today to the forum delegates, Milley said that he wanted his country to join Donald Trump's project to impose reciprocal tariffs, Agence France-Presse added.
"Argentina wants to be the first country in the world to join this reciprocity agreement that the Trump administration is calling for in the field of trade," Milley said.
"If we were not limited by Mercosur, Argentina would already be working for a bilateral free trade agreement with the United States that would be mutually beneficial," Milley added, recalling that Argentina is part of the Mercosur bloc along with Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Washington could impose a 25 percent tariff on steel imports from March 12 and aluminum - a measure that risks hitting Argentina hard. Milley could discuss the issue with Trump on the sidelines of a conservative forum in the US.
This is Milley's second visit to the US in 30 days. He also attended Trump's inauguration, Agence France-Presse recalls.
