The governments of Britain and France are considering sending up to 30,000 peacekeepers to Ukraine. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in European political circles.
According to them, London and Paris are linking the deployment of troops to a ceasefire agreement. Britain and France then expect to use American military capacity to protect the peacekeepers from threats. Air defense systems already in Europe could serve this purpose, the sources said.
The success of the initiative depends primarily on the ability of European leaders to convince U.S. President Donald Trump to support the plan to deploy peacekeeping forces.
French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Washington on February 24 and hold talks with Trump. And on February 27, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will arrive for a meeting with the American leader.
