The leader of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the country's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, delivered a speech at the party's Eighth Regular Congress in Ankara and outlined the directions of its future activities, reported “Türkiye Today“, BTA reported.

On Sunday, he presented an optimistic outlook for the Turkish economy, pointed out the necessary reforms and reaffirmed the AKP's commitment to national unity.

Erdogan rejected allegations of the party's weakening and stressed that it remains firmly rooted in the will of the people.

The Turkish president harshly criticized the opposition and the TÜSİAD business association, which he accused of undermining Turkey's democratic institutions. Erdogan said the opposition had often sought power through undemocratic means and allied itself with terrorist groups.

He outlined the ruling party's ambitious economic vision and highlighted the country's progress under its rule. Erdogan highlighted Turkey's improving economic performance, noting that per capita income had risen from $3,600 to $13,243. The president promised that inflation would continue to fall, which would strengthen citizens' purchasing power.

Erdogan also boasted about Turkey's progress in the global defense industry, noting that it is a leader in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and ranks 11th in terms of defense exports.

Among the future reforms, he highlighted the economic transformation aimed at sustainable growth, green and digital technologies, and social policies aimed at a more just and inclusive society.

Erdogan presented a roadmap for future economic development with an emphasis on structural reforms and addressing demographic challenges.

The Turkish president also announced new policies to encourage investment in the domestic market, including a plan to build affordable housing and manage rising housing prices.

Erdogan's speech also focused on national security and the fight against terrorism. He reiterated the AKP's commitment to eliminating terrorism within Turkey's borders, as well as the so-called Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETO) both at home and abroad.

Erdogan portrayed Turkey as an emerging global power and emphasized its growing role in regional and international politics.

He concluded his speech with a call for national unity and political stability at a time when Turkey is moving towards a new stage of growth and development.

Following the surprises of the congress is the inclusion of former Real Madrid footballer Mesut Özil in the AKP Central Council, confirming long-standing rumors about his intentions to enter politics.
